We all have great love for our handbags and want nothing more than to take proper care of them. Here We Go:
Before you go any further, check to see if any cleaning instructions came with your handbag. If so follow them completely.
Empty the purse of all its contents. Be sure to check all pockets and zippers too!! Empty purse of all debris, if the purse is strong enough vacuum it out with the attachment wand.
If the purse is made of cloth and is really dirty, then I would suggest taking it to be dry-cleaned. If it is only a small spot then use a clean white cloth, warm water and mild detergent and blot the spot clean…Do not rub! Test a small spot before you begin to clean larger surfaces.
If your purse is leather or suede then grab the appropriate cleaner and a clean white cloth and follow directions on the cleaner.
When cleaning a vinyl, plastic, wooden or simulated leather bags start by blotting a small spot with a clean cloth and warm water to test for color fastness before moving on to larger spots. Again, blot the spot clean…Do not rub!
Finally take a clean Q-tip and moisten with warm water to clean off any hardware attached to the purse.
A few more handbag enhancing suggestions:
Stuff handbags not being used with tissue paper to keep the original shape of the bag. If it is a winter handbag consider storing your winter gloves and scarves in the handbag for storage of as well!!
Do not store in plastic bags as plastic bags are not breathable and will promote bacteria growth.
Of course we have to remember where we set our handbags down! Think bathroom floor when you are out, BLECK!
